The mental health benefits of journaling or keeping a diary have been documented for quite a while now…from improved emotions & sleep, increased ability to recognize challenges & create solutions, physical improvements to our bodies and a reduction in stress. The increase in mind & body wellness from journaling is immense, especially as it also increases our heartfelt ability to express what we’re grateful for within our lives. Today on the blog I’m sharing my latest find when it comes to journaling &/or planning and hope this may help inspire you to implement this practice into your life as well!
I’ve always been a pretty organized person and have recently considered returning to my life-long practice of keeping a planner/journal. Especially as I’ve found myself with so much on lately, that it has started to become a little, shall we say, overwhelming. I was fortunate to be approached by The Kind Friend company, who have started producing their very own branded journal, to see if I was interested in collaborating with them. One quick look on their website to learn about their company values, mission & products meant I quickly agreed. Aside from producing lovely wellness focused journals, I was inspired by their goal to spread positivity and inspire us to live a more calm and feel-good life.
Even though I’ve been working from home since March and haven’t been going out as much as I used to, I have to be honest and admit that this change in lifestyle has come with a different set of challenges. This is completely normal though to some degree, in my opinion – as we’re always going to have some amount of tension or stress when we enter into a new situation, lifestyle or circumstances. After walking out of a major stationery brand store in the last month because I couldn’t find a diary which appealed, I was very interested in receiving The Kind Friend journal. So much so that when it arrived last Friday, I decided to begin using it this Monday to start my week off on a positive note!
There’s honestly so many things to love about this journal. Firstly, the cover reminds us to “Smile More, Stress Less”. This simple reminder to smile is an important one as this year more than ever we truly need to look for things in life which makes us feel good – and this journal is one of those things for me! The gilt-edged pages are a lovely touch, offsetting the gold text on the front cover and the fabric bookmarks come in handy to mark certain pages you might need to access efficiently. Also, the inspiring quotes which are peppered throughout the pages are a thoughtful touch.
The Kind Friend journal is divided into two sections – one which is laid out as a “planner” and the second which provides blank pages for you to customise as you wish. The planner portion is laid out on a weekly basis for a total of 26 weeks. It includes sections for you to write down your weekly goals, weekly tasks, daily mood, habit tracker, what you loved/didn’t love during the week, as well as what you are grateful for. This is so much more than a standard planner which often just list out the dates & days of each week.
The Kind Friend journal is so conducive to encouraging us to become clear on our goals, it even encourages us to write those goals and separate them into tasks in order to help us achieve them. The habit tracker is another wellness bonus – I have a strong feeling that our habits will inform our daily mood, so I’m very interested in tracking this after I’ve consistently used the journal for a few months. Being able to write down what we loved & didn’t love during the week is helpful too and the “What I’m Grateful For” area essentially wraps us our experience on a week by week.
The blank section in the second half of the journal exists to help inspire our creativity. I’ve already started using this in a “list” format, writing down ideas for future blog posts. It can be used to draw, write or even stick photos onto the pages, so you really do have the freedom to customize your journal in any way you prefer! There’s something so positive & calming about getting away from a computer screen and thoughtfully taking the time to write and plan. It engages our brains in a way which typing on a computer just cannot match.
The Kind Friend started on Instagram as a community to inspire people and increase their wellbeing. They have now branched out by co-creating products to extend their mission even further, resulting in the practical and engaging journal range. Available in a variety of colours, including pink, blue, yellow, red and black, you’re sure to find one which will appeal to yourself or for someone in your life as a special gift. Apart from journals they also have gratitude cards which are thoughtful reminders to center ourselves on a daily basis.
As with any habit, it takes a while to get into the routine of consistently taking action. Whilst I’ve only just started journaling again, it’s one I feel extremely excited and positive about. The Kind Friend journal is such a pleasure to use so far and it’s only early days for me with mine right now… so I can’t wait to see how I feel and the results which will follow after a few months of regular use. I hope you have been inspired to consider journaling again too – whether it’s a daily habit or something you slowly ease into your life. If you’re looking for a feel-good journal which helps you to focus on the positive aspects of your life, plus allows you room to express your creativity, then make sure you consider The Kind Friend journal as your new writing buddy!
