Hi everyone and welcome back to another blog post! It’s been over a month since I published anything here on my blog and I have to say I’ve missed it. During my spare time, I’ve been busy balancing my French studies and creating weekly videos over on my YouTube channel. I’m really happy that I’ve carved out some time to finally write this particular article as it’s one I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you. Hopefully this review will be useful for anyone who is considering whether these loafers are a worthwhile footwear purchase, so let’s dive right in!
Regular readers of my blog (and subscribers to my YouTube channel) will already know that I purchased a pair of Gucci Jordaan loafers in March this year. I published an unboxing video and an article here sharing my initial impressions. I also promised that once I’d worn the loafers in, I would create a follow-up review article. I wanted to share my honest experience and thoughts on the Gucci Jordaan loafers and whether I would repurchase these.
I purchased my pair of Gucci Jordaan loafers in March this year, in-store at the Gucci boutique in Westfield Sydney. Originally, I wasn’t a fan of these when they were first released and couldn’t comprehend what all the fuss was about. Now, it’s important to share that I have only recently started to wear loafers over the last year and a half – meaning my lack of interest in the Jordaans was purely because I hadn’t considered loafers as a footwear option. Obviously, that is no longer the case!
A footwear fashion moment I simply can’t forget
Like a lot of fashion favourite moments in our lives, I still recall trying on my first pair of Jordaan’s. It was almost a year ago when I had my heart set on purchasing a pair of the Gucci Marmont mid-heel loafers. Given I was in-store, I decided to try on the Jordaan and Brixton loafer styles whilst I was waiting, just to see what all the footwear fuss was about. And then I clearly understood… because the moment I slid my feet into the Jordaans, I found myself in shoe heaven on earth. “They feel like clouds” is what I exclaimed to my friend and the sales assistant. Despite this, I didn’t walk out with that pair of Jordaans – and it’s a decision I would come to regret.
Are they comfortable?
Fast forward to almost a year later (after I sold those Marmont mid-heel loafers after about five wears), I ended up walking back into the Gucci store to finally claim these “walking on clouds” shoes for myself. And herein lies the entire point of this article. Ultimately, I had to invest in the Gucci Jordaan loafers, purely due to the comfort factor. Truly, no other pair of footwear I own (sans my house slippers) are as comfortable as these loafers. My Hermes Oran sandals come a close second, yet the buttery soft leather on the Jordaan’s inevitably wins that particular competition.
I’ve always loved heels and adore the much-needed height boost they provide, given I’m quite short. I didn’t prioritise comfort during my earlier years which is partly to blame for why I now have a bunion on my right foot. Therefore, comfort is now the influencing factor when I make footwear purchases. This is the reason why I love the Gucci Jordaan loafers so much. Being a pair of flat shoes, they are instantly going to be comfier to wear than a pair of stilettos. Yet, not all flats are made equal…
The design of these shoes is iconic – the Jordaan’s are an updated iteration of the signature Gucci horse-bit loafer which was first produced in 1953. The updated style features a slim, almost almond toe shape and have a slight heel measuring in at 1cm. The leather as mentioned earlier is buttery soft yet also durable. I haven’t found the leather on mine becoming markedly scratched even with regular wear. Obviously, there are some wrinkles on the front top of the leather due to the flexing of the feet whilst walking, yet this is to be expected and is part of normal wear.
Are the Jordaan’s true to size?
When it comes to sizing, I ended up with half a size down from my usual size. Initially I purchased my normal size of 36.5 however after trying them on at home, I felt my heel was slipping too much for my liking. I did try my normal size on at home with insoles as well, to see if that would improve the fit but I was still slipping out. This meant I did end up going back in-store to exchange for another pair in a half size down of size 36. And that size is perfect for me. My feet don’t slip out of them and there is sufficient room in the front toe area. The width is fine and, even better, I’m not left with aching feet after an entire day of walking around in these shoes!
If you know, then you know…
Gucci’s signature horse-bit detail in brass adds that additional element of textural interest whilst it isn’t as flashy as their Marmont “GG” logo. Which leads me to another reason why I adore the Jordaan loafers… Unless you know what a pair of Gucci Jordaan loafers look like, then you wouldn’t know these were designer shoes. I don’t mind some extra-ness or a logo here or there…sometimes though you want something which is incredibly beautiful yet doesn’t draw attention. That’s what you can expect with these shoes. Simple yet stylish, cool yet comfortable, easy to wear yet elegant.
Would I repurchase the Jordaan loafers?
If you were to ask me if I would re-purchase the Gucci Jordaan loafers, my response would be an instant yes. In fact, it’s more of an “I must” – because I simply must have these in another colourway, if for no other reason than to expand the number of outfits I can wear with these shoes! At the time of purchasing these I was debating between the black and dark brown versions. I decided upon the black pair was because I felt it would be a safe option and could work in more formal environments as well as more casual ones. Although, to be honest, I tend to favour brown, tan and beige toned accessories, which means the dark brown Jordaan loafers are next up on my footwear wish-list.
I don’t feel I can really share much more when it comes to these shoes. The Gucci Jordaan loafers tick all the boxes for me when it comes to footwear. They look great and are undoubtedly very stylish shoes. The leather feels soft and is also surprisingly durable. The horse-bit detail adds interest and they aren’t the type of footwear to draw too much attention – which means they’re versatile enough to work for a multitude of different occasions. And the most important point is they are extremely comfortable. So, I feel like I’ve come full circle here, with my “walking on clouds” shoes. The Jordaan loafers are the only shoes I can confidently say I will be wearing for the rest of my life. I only wish I had invested in a pair sooner.
