I wanted to write a post about my latest investment purchase because it clearly demonstrates just how much my sense of style has shifted since 2019. If the way we present ourselves on the outsider through our clothing & footwear choices speaks volumes then I’ve certainly undergone a seismic shift in terms of my inner self. Today on the blog I’m sharing my latest purchase from Gucci – which is more than a purchase in itself – it’s a sense of practicality, style and confidence. And for those who want to see the unboxing video, I’ll leave a link to my YouTube unboxing at the end of this article.
If we time travel back to 2019 you’d find me in stiletto heels for Monday to Friday in the office, as well as the occasional pair of flat shoes or sneakers on the weekend. After years of wearing stilettos and not making the best shoe or sizing decisions, I ended up with a painful bunion on my right foot. I knew I had to start making more considered & comfortable shoe purchases and this is what has led me to where we are today. The last year and a half ushered in a shift from stilettos to block heels, to low block heels and flat comfortable footwear. I’ve also decided to start investing in designer footwear so that not only are my choices more practical but they’re stylish and well made.
Discovering my love for loafers

I’m going to wax lyrical today about a particular style of footwear – the loafer. When it comes to loafers, Gucci are renowned for their take on this classic footwear through their Brixton and Jordaan styles. I remember trying on both of these styles in store around July 2020 and remarking that the Jordaan loafers felt like I was “wearing clouds on my feet”! Yes, the Gucci Jordaan loafers are truly the most comfortable pair of shoes my feet have ever had the chance to wear.
You would think with that being the case that I would’ve invested in a pair of Jordaans right then and there, surely? Instead, I had my heart set of the Gucci Marmont mid-heel pumps so those were the pair I walked away with. In a half size too small no less! Because of my bunion issue, the width of the Marmont mid-heel pumps was too small for me, although I didn’t realize this at the time when I was trying them on in-store. My main concern was that my foot didn’t slip out of the shoe. They feature a leather strap across the width of the shoe, which meant the ability of the leather to stretch was restricted in that area – something I only discovered after wearing them for a few hours.
Investing in a pair of Gucci Jordaan loafers
After a few failed attempts of wearing the Marmont mid-heel loafers which left me in a lot of pain, I decided that I would try to sell them on the pre-loved market and then replace them with a pair of the Jordaan loafers. It took a few months but I was able to sell them recently for a decent price and now finally have been able to replace them with the comfy (and chic) Jordaan loafers. I also ensured I purchased the Jordaans in my proper size and there is no pain across the width of the shoe at the front either! These loafers are made from buttery soft leather which will certainly stretch as I wear the shoes in over time…
When it comes to styling these shoes, I can picture wearing my Gucci Jordaan loafers with jeans for the weekend, or trousers for those days in the office, in black and navy colourways. I had been considering purchasing the shoes in the dark brown colour as I tend to wear a lot of navy in my wardrobe. However, I ended up deciding upon black as it’s such a classic colour, which I knew would work well with both navy and black. However, I think I may be tempted to one day invest in the brown pair as well. It’s also a great time to wear loafers now too in Australia, considering we’re in autumn and heading towards winter.

I wore stilettos for so many years, for multiple reasons. A main one was because I am quite petite, at 5 ft 1 in, so most people tend to be taller than me. And whilst I do adore the look of heels and the additional height benefits, I’ve reached a point in my life where comfort is key. Maybe I have my bunion to thank, combined with a pandemic year of working from home. Whatever the reason, my shoe game has shifted and the Gucci Jordaan loafers are a big part of the story for me. They represent levelling up in terms of shoe style and wise decision making – plus they do feel like wearing clouds on your feet!
