One of the things I adore about winter are the vibes of utter contentment you get from hot chocolate, comfort food and being snuggled up in a warm knit jumper! After overhauling my wardrobe earlier this year I knew in advance that I’d need to invest in some new key knitwear pieces for winter 2019. Whilst woollens have always been something I’ve loved wearing during the cooler months, I wasn’t happy with the few that remained in my closet. So this year I made a conscious effort to find some new pieces which I knew I would love for years to come. Here’s a selection of the must-have knitwear styles I’ve purchased in 2019; pieces which won’t go out of style, are super versatile and will have you looking forward to putting away your summer clothes and welcoming the cooler months!
1. the Cashmere knit

Cashmere really does live up to it’s reputation! Revered for being soft, lightweight and warm at the same time, I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to purchase a cashmere knit. For my first foray into the world of lightweight softness, I purchased a wool-cashmere blend knit from one of my new favourite brands, Reiss.

This is the Abella wool cashmere blend jumper in pink and it’s as light as a feather to wear! So comfortable and the “batwing” sleeves lend a stylish edge. I prefer wearing this one with the sleeves pushed up my forearms if it’s not cold enough indoors to wear the sleeves down to my wrists. A very light shade of pink, this works beautifully with white jeans as well as beige, tan, white, plum and navy skirts. This knit isn’t just for wintertime either, I can honestly see myself wearing it throughout autumn and spring as well. Reiss also have this exact knit in a very pale yellow, which is currently on sale, check out the links below:

2. the Cable Knit jumper

An absolute staple in my winter wardrobe, I’ve always adored a snuggly cable knit jumper! There’s something so preppy and comforting about this style and I seem to gravitate towards cable knits in white & grey colours. As my old wool Jigsaw grey cable knit jumper was showing a lot of wear after having worn it for years, I decided to invest in a new one a few months ago. I picked up this gorgeous one from Saba – it’s the Chloe Cable Knit in Cool Grey.

When it comes to the colour, I’m pretty picky as not every shade of grey suits me! “Cool Grey” is spot on in describing the true colour of this piece – it’s the perfect light – mid toned grey for me and works great with black, white, blue jeans & pants. With ribbed cuffs that you can fold over and a loose fitted style, this is the ultimate feel good knit for the colder days during winter. Being a classic piece you can dress it up or down, wear it to work or on the weekend, so it’s ultra versatile. Saba also have the Chloe Cable knit in a pink colour as well.

3. the Angora/Mohair knit
I fell in love with angora & mohair knitwear back when I bought one of my first Wheels & Dollbaby cardigans and have been waiting to find the perfect fluffy jumper for years! Australian label Witchery is well known throughout Oz but I have to admit I hadn’t bought anything from this brand, until this winter. I found this gorgeously soft & fluffy peach coloured jumper from their site online and it’s been one of my favourite pieces to wear this winter.

The sleeves have a slight “balloon style” shape to them and the ribbed cuffs are quite long so you can push the sleeves up or fold them over. The colour of this jumper on the Witchery website is described as “mink” – it’s a light peachy-apricot colour and I love wearing it with jeans on the weekend for a luxe relaxed style. Taking a look instore & through their website, I was really impressed with the variety of knitwear styles that Witchery have on offer, so this is a brand I will definitely be keeping in mind for the future!

4. the Turtleneck knit jumper
A classic but for good reason! A turtleneck knit jumper is elegant and with the added benefit of keeping you warm on those ultra windy & freezing days. As I mentioned earlier, I had decided to overhaul my wardrobe and shift away from bright colours towards more neutrals and softer tones. Also as I hadn’t worn a turtleneck in years, I decided to invest in one in black from Karen Millen, confident that I would be able to style it very well in my 9-5 working wardrobe with pencil skirts, as well as on weekends.

I’d purchased a few jumpers from Karen Millen in 2018 for winter, so I already love the quality from this brand. Their slim fitted rollneck jumper comes in both black and ivory and has a chevron design all over. It’s such a classic and wearable piece and well worthy of a place in your winter wardrobe!

5. the Statement sleeve knit

On trend in 2018 and returning in 2019, balloon sleeves aren’t going anyway, at least for this season! I don’t usually pay any attention to trends and simply just choose whatever styles & colours I believe suit me best. However when online shopping one night, I came across the Bea balloon sleeve knit from Saba and went into the store the next day to get a better glimpse for myself…and ended up buying it on the spot!

A very warm knit with balloon styled sleeves, long ribbed cuffs and 3 small buttons on the left hand shoulder, this is one of my all time fave pieces this year. The colour is more of a dusky pinky-purple than what you see on the Saba website, where it looks a lot lighter online. I’ve been wearing this to work and on the weekends, getting the cost per wear down already! It’s really comfortable and you can wear a top or thermal underneath as an added layer for those super icy days. Saba also offer this jumper in a berry-red colour called currant as well, if pink isn’t your thing!
