Perfect fit in the Nash jacket by Anna Thomas

I’ve always had this thing with blazers…and when I say “thing” what I actually mean is something bordering on a level of style anxiety. I haven’t worn a proper blazer since high school – you know… the kind that you had to wear over your school uniform when you were outside the school grounds. Yeah, that kind. And I think that’s why for my entire adult life I’ve actually shied away from blazers. But in 2020 something has happened…I’ve changed my mind. I blame it on Instagram and probably being influenced by my favourite style You Tubers – the majority of which happen to be based in London, where this classic jacket is considered a wardrobe staple.

Starting my search for the perfect blazer

So earlier this year, I started my search for the perfect blazer. Now, this wasn’t easy given the start of the year in Sydney is right in the middle of summertime. It also doesn’t help when the overseas brands are sold out of your size; because I’ve noticed all the best items usually come out at the start of the season and sell out quickly. I had this image in my mind of the perfect blazer but knew I’d have to conduct a search akin to a missing person operation and that it could potentially take a while. Yet, given it took me about four years to find a leather jacket I loved, I knew I was capable of being in this for the long haul!

Discovering Anna Thomas

My search actually didn’t last too long and it was all thanks to walking into a boutique in the middle of Sydney’s QVB, quite unexpectedly one Sunday afternoon. It was on this day I ventured into Anna Thomas, a womenswear brand with stores in Chifley Plaza, Double Bay, Mosman and the city. Those locations speak as to the clientele they market towards – if you’re not familiar with Sydney then I’ll just say this is not fast fashion or the high street. This is serious style steeped in quality – with the price tag to match.

Falling in love with the Nash blazer

I didn’t expect to find anything I’d love so much, that would make me feel comfortable forking over the equivalent of a pair of designer heels – that is until I tried on the Nash jacket. Slipping on this mid-blue herringbone beauty was a sartorial otherworldly experience in itself. Never have I worn an item of clothing so perfectly cut & designed, that it felt like it was created specifically for me! And the tactile feel of it was on another level; silky smooth, warm yet cool at the same time – thanks to a fabrication blend of premium Italian wool, silk & linen.

It’s all in the details!

Another reason why I adored this so much was the sweet buttons – a light white/grey with blue edges, they perfectly offset the lighter tones in the herringbone pattern and are expertly positioned along the chest, with a button on each cuff. The neckline is cut to a polished point and the darts throughout define & enhance the shape of this single breasted blazer, which sits perfectly just above the hips. Finally, the dark blue stretch lining is like the icing on the cake; offsetting the lighter overall blue tones of the main fabric.

The Nash jacket from Anna Thomas is certainly an investment piece. Like a fine piece of rare artwork, it shouldn’t be hidden from view. It certainly needs to be appreciated and worn – as much as possible too, to get that cost per wear ratio down! I’ve noticed I’ve been using the word versatile much more often in my blog posts, however this is undoubtedly true for this blazer – it can be styled for work or play, during the day or night and will instantly elevate any look. There is also a matching skirt available too, here.

I call this my magic blazer, because the ability it has to transform not only how an outfit looks but also how I feel when wearing it, is truly magical. And I think that’s what so many people love about style – its power to make you feel, the ability to transcend the everyday and the creativity it inspires when creating outfits. And that to me, is something you can’t put a price-tag on.

In love with this investment piece from Anna Thomas!
