With the world in isolation and everyone cooped up at home, self-care is more important than ever – the excuse that you “cannot find the time” just won’t work anymore! With that in mind, it’s the perfect time to not only clean out our wardrobes & homes, but also to take a look at our skincare. Our skin is our body’s largest organ and reflects what is happening on the inside; it’s the last part of us that receives vitamins & nutrients, which means it most definitely deserves a little TLC!
I’m a skincare junkie myself, after having suffered from cystic acne during my 20’s. It’s something I don’t often talk about to others but it most certainly resulted in educating myself on skin care – finding out what ingredients, products & brands were worth my time and which weren’t. It also takes a big leap of faith for me to try out new skincare brands or products, as I’m super wary about what I put onto my skin these days, given it is so sensitive.
So, it was with excitement (and truthfully a bit of nervousness) that I agreed to try out the skincare range from Kosmea Australia. With over 25 years of experience, this Aussie brand prides itself on it’s award winning products and their ethical focus on sourcing organic ingredients. Whilst any good skincare aficionado will tell you that you have to give products at least 28 – 45 days (the equivalent of 1 skin cycle for cell turnover, depending upon your age) to truly ascertain the results…I’ve loved using Kosmea’s range the last week. I’ll give you my honest thoughts on each product and what my experience has been, to help you out…
Kosmea Hydrating Rosewater Mist
The first product I tried from Kosmea’s range was their Hydrating Rosewater mist and I instantly fell in love with it. In fact, I’ve just had another mist of this on my face as I’m writing now! What I love about this mist is that it truly smells like a waft of rose petals all around you. The bottle actually says, “This hydrating mist is made with a thousand delicately distilled rose petals” and after trying this I do believe it!
It’s a refreshing pick me up that can be used at any time of the day and the scent is there whilst not being too overpowering. The Hydrating Rosewater mist is the best facial mist I’ve ever tried as it feels light yet hydrating, smells gorgeous and I give this a rating of 4 out of 5!
Kosmea Purifying Cream Cleanser
A gentle make-up remover for all skin types – this is the perfect one if you have sensitive skin like me. Kosmea’s Purifying cream cleanser is made with organic rosehip oil, Australian Avocado oil and witch hazel. Important to note I didn’t use this cleanser to remove makeup as I haven’t been wearing any this week (the benefits of working from home!) and I’m not sure that after using this that it would adequately remove all traces of makeup. It might, with an effective double cleanse, though truthfully I’d prefer to use makeup wipes & micellar water to remove makeup, then go in with this cleanser to properly clean the skin.
So how did it feel? The cleanser has a slightly slippery yet creamy consistency. It didn’t drip off my face but it’s not one I would use as say a 5 minute mask. Which is ok, because that’s not what this product is designed for! There was quite a natural scent, which I couldn’t tell if it was the rosehip oil, avo oil or witch-hazel…or maybe all 3? But given they are all great natural ingredients, it felt enjoyable to use and my skin didn’t feel dry once cleansing the product off – so this gets 3 out of 5 stars for me.
Kosmea Facial Muslin Cloth
I love a muslin cloth and should probably invest more in them – so was very excited to try out Kosmea’s offering. Made from 100% pure cotton, it’s quite a decent sized cloth and felt lovely to use. I soaked this one under warm water, then pressed it onto my skin before wiping off the cleansing cream.
My skin felt smooth & soft and the experience was relaxing, given the heat opens up the pores and the cloth aids in gentle exfoliation. I missed out on finishing up with a cold water rinse and skin press, so will be doing that tonight! If you love a muslin cloth facial then I definitely recommend you try this one out if you’re in the market for a new one. For me, this gets 3 out of 5 stars – it would be 4 stars but I’ve dropped one as I don’t believe this is a necessity, especially if you are using serums or Vitamin A/Retinol to help exfoliate… But it’s a lovely gift to yourself or loved ones!
Kosmea Replenishing Moisture Cream
For all skin types and best applied over rosehip oil, this moisturiser was the one product I was the most nervous about using! In my experience a moisturiser can either work really well or not at all, yet thankfully my worries were short lived after trying out this one. My skin felt so incredibly hydrated, plumped up and wrinkles were definitely reduced! Even better, my skin didn’t have that sticky or shiny residue (which usually happens when I use too much of my own moisturiser)!
A little of this goes quite a long way, so 1-2 pumps should be sufficient for the face and 1 for the neck. I think I pumped out 5 which was way too much! The top ingredients in this moisturiser include Rosehip Oil and Shea butter; it also contains white tea extract and Hyalurolift to provide a burst of hydration and assist skin in maintaining moisture. I give this moisturiser 4 out of 5 stars! You don’t have to spend a ton of money on moisturiser; this one feels great to use, the pump dispenser aids in protecting the quality & life of the product with no shiny face afterwards.
Kosmea Rosehip Oil
I was introduced to the world of facial oils over a decade ago by a beauty therapist and remember being quite dubious as to whether they would be a good idea. At the time, I was quite confused about the state of my skin, believing it was oily. The truth was that my skin was over-producing oil because I was stripping it of it’s natural oils by using the wrong products and using harsh manual exfoliants…definitely not a good idea for “sensitive skin” types! I ventured into the facial oil realm by starting off with jojoba oil and then about a year later tried out rosehip oil. It’s been many years now that I have kept this wonder treatment oil in my skincare routine, and for quite a few good reasons.
Rosehip Oil is originally derived from the Chilean Rosa Canina plant, where the oil is extracted from the fruit, seeds & skin of the rose bush plant. Basically, it’s been around since forever and is now grown all across the world. Kosmea Skincare’s world renowned Rosehip Oil is 100% certified organic, as well as being ethically sourced. This means you can be sure you’re using quality ingredients from sustainable practices and it’s packed with these potent skin-nourishing super fighters:
– Essential Fatty Acids to strengthen skin cell walls and enhance the amount of skin water retention, including linoleic and linolenic acids;
– Antioxidants to provide skin protection and up skin’s cell regeneration;
– Vitamin A (aka retinol) has long been one of the most recommended skin ingredients, as it encourages skin cell turnover which aids in reducing fine lines & wrinkles as well as boosting collagen production;
– Vitamin C is another skin superhero which enhances skin radiance and also gets the skin working to produce collagen.
I’ve been using the Trilogy rosehip oil for so long now, that getting the opportunity to try out Kosmea’s offering was exciting and a decision I don’t regret. First impressions were that the oil was quite golden and with the signature rosehip scent that I’ve come to expect. I always use 3-4 drops of the oil every morning on my face & neck, after using a Vitamin B serum and before using my moisturiser/sunscreen.
However I’m usually left with quite the shiny face after patting on the Rosehip Oil – this wasn’t the case for me after trying out this one. My skin felt hydrated & soft immediately and afterwards throughout the day, minus the oily face effect! So this is most certainly a rosehip oil that I will be purchasing in the future, based on my experience. Very pleased with Kosmea’s one and highly recommend it – a 5 out of 5!
So to sum it all up, here’s my short take on each product:
– Purifying Cream Cleanser – great if you love “natural” scent type cleansers or have sensitive skin
– Hydrating Rosewater Mist – perfect for face mist fans, definitely purchase this and try it out. Not an absolute necessity for your skincare routine, more of a “pick me up” indulgence
– Replenishing Moisture Cream – a surprisingly good moisturiser with effective natural ingredients, a little goes a long way
– Muslin Cloth – perfect for skin care lovers who enjoy taking that bit of extra time during their skin routine, helps in exfoliating your skin (but use it gently!)
– Rosehip Oil – 100% recommend this product, it is the best rosehip oil I have tried so far!
I hope you have enjoyed this review of Kosmea Australia’s skincare care range and found it useful! They have a ton of other products for different skin types as well as skin masks, so check out their range on their website, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
